Celebrate Black History Month with us every Saturday in February! Each Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., we'll take a closer look at the lives of enslaved people and traditions that still influence American culture today.
Each Saturday will also include special themed tours of Brattonsville's African American history at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Feb. 5 - African American Foodways
- Food of the planter class vs. food of the enslaved
- Impact of West African crops and cooking styles on Southern food
Feb. 12 - Trades and the Skilled Enslaved People
- Blacksmithing
- Carpentry
- Tailoring and seamstress work
Feb. 19 - Daily Life for Enslaved People
- Food rations
- Clothing
- Laundry
Feb. 26 - Arts and Cultural Contributions
- Storytelling
- Quilting
- Children's games
Ticket are available online or at the Visitor's Center on the day of the event.
