Juneteenth Festival on the Green

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 06/22/2024
Join us as we remember the past, celebrate the present, and elevate the future of community and culture. There will be food, music, drumming, vendors, and so much more! This event is in partnership with Barber-Scotia College. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.
