Blue Christmas – The Longest Night Prayer Service
Blue Christmas “The Longest Night” Prayer Service
Thursday, December 21 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary
Honoring people who have lost loved ones and are experiencing grief.
Blue Christmas (also called the Longest Night) in the Western Christian tradition, is a day in the Advent season marking the longest night of the year when a service is held that honors people who have lost loved ones and are experiencing grief. We recognize the need to care for our mental health and that some are “feeling blue” during this season. Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with the loss of a job, living with cancer or some other disease that puts a question mark over the future, and a number of other human situations make social interactions painful for many people.
Matthews UMC accepts where each individual is and offers a sacred space for people living through dark times, a reflective space with healing and hope.
