Experience the all-new farm at The Schiele Museum!
*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 05/31/2021
Sponsored by Gaston County Farm Bureau, Inc., the all-new farm experience is open for visitors to explore! For thousands of years, humans have nurtured crops while making use of other creatures for food, transportation, clothing, companionship, and recreation. All of the plants and animals found on our farms were once wild, and the story of their domestication is part of the history of our civilization. Farming has changed dramatically over time in the Piedmont and The Schiele’s new farm experience explores the natural, ever-changing relationships between people, plants, and animals on our local farms across the history of our region.
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Exciting changes to the Farm include:
- New and expanded gardens to showcase a variety of plants and growing techniques.
- Agricultural equipment, past and present, to demonstrate how technology on the farm has changed over time.
- A milking cow and other activities for hands-on learning.
- More live animals! We’re gradually introducing some new friends to help tell the animal story; visit often to see what's new!
- We currently have chickens, goats, pigs, bunnies, bees, and alpacas!
