1850's Militia Muster at Historic Latta Plantation

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 05/02/2021
A militia is generally an army or some other fighting organization of non-professional soldiers, citizens of a country, or subjects of a state, who may perform military service during a time of need, as opposed to a professional force of regular, full-time military personnel. During the 1850s, baseball wasn't America's pastime. Drilling with your local militia company was! A mainstay of American culture in the 19th Century, a militia muster could range from carrying out state-needed work and law enforcement to lavish meals, competitions, and dancing! Militias varied and no two were exactly alike. Visit Historic Latta Plantation to learn more about a unique time in American history. Regular admission applies, free for members.
